an exploration of the techniques, methods and technologies used in post-war western avant-garde music and sound art. each track draws influence from a different period of experimental music and was produced using the methods employed by the artists at that time:
1. Étude des Boucles et du Bruit
explores musique concrete and tape music, Pierre Schaeffer's and his protégé Pierre Henry’s work with tape manipulation and use of "sound objects".
2. Indeterminacy; Parts I, II & III
these three pieces explore John Cage’s work with indeterminacy in composition, chance in performance and the use of non-traditional graphic scores.
3. Excerpts from Studies of Outsiders
explores Jean Debuffet’s work with ‘art brut’ (outsider art): art occurring outside of the conventional art scene by people without formal training.
4. Experiments with Volume
explores the extreme sound of harsh noise, specifically Japanese artists from the 90s such as Merzbow, Incapacitants and Hijokaidan.
